Music- 26th Feb 2021 – The Brass Family of the Orchestra.

Hi Year 5, welcome back to Module 2 of your Jam-Bus Online Music lessons with me, Mr Spoerer. Well done to all of you who have been logging in and creating some amazing music for us all over the last module. Thank you for being part of it and well done if you received virtual Jam-Bus Certificates for your awesome work. I LOVED all of your various Adele performances of “Make you feel my Love.” It’s a beautiful song, and to you keyboard players, signers and singers, I’m proud of you. This Module we are going to be exploring “The Orchestra” which is truly the biggest most awe inspiring style of music because it involves so many people playing so many different types musical instruments.

The Orchestral Family.

The String section. The Woodwind section. The Brass Section. The Percussion Section.

WALT: How to learn the different “TIMBRES” or “sounds” of each instrument in the “Brass Section” of the Orchestra and be able to identify them just from hearing each instrument’s  “Quality of Sound.” This is what Timbre means. It’s a french word that means exactly how an instrument sounds, and the different noises an instrument can make and how it makes that noise.

In this lesson we’ll focus on the Pitch, (high or low notes) of each instrument and the name of each pitch. The highest being Soprano, Mid to high Alto, Mid to Low Tenor and lowest which is Bass.  We’ll also explore the use of the mouthpiece and “Lip buzz” that creates the timbre of the Brass Section. 

We’ll also know the names of each instrument in the Brass Section.

The highest being the Soprano, Trumpet Mid to high Alto / Tenor French Horn Low Tenor Trombones  and lowest bass sound, the Tuba.

*LESSON 2: MATHS – Mathletics and TTRS

Today your maths lesson will be to complete the activities set for you. There will be various tasks set as well as a deadline, which will be today at 14:15. It has been set at this time as this is not optional but compulsory – it is a lesson. Those of you that were finding multiplication difficult this week I suggest you spend at least 15 mins on TTRS. Your times table knowledge is something you will use throughout your life, even more so as an adult! So, it is important that you keep up the practice of your times tables.

Today, you will be building on your multiplication understanding by multiplying 4 digit numbers by 2 digits numbers. Today, the focus will still be on tens of thousands, thousandshundredstens and onesYou will continue to partition into ones, tens, hundreds, thousands and maybe tens of thousands. The formal written method is the focus today. As always your times table knowledge will help you with your calculations!!!

Remember when it comes to multiplying in the tens column, you are multiplying tens by tens e.g. 34 x 22, the tens that you would multiply are 30 x 20.

Today, you will be building on your multiplication by multiplying 4 digit numbers by 2 digits numbers. Yesterday, you focused on the thousands, hundredstens and ones. *LESSON 3: Literacy – Analyse A Film Clip And Generate Vocabulary

Building on the sentence work you did yesterday, in this lesson, you will watch and analyse the opening clip to a film version of Oliver Twist. You will generate nouns and adjectives to describe the setting and characters and verbs and adverbs to describe the action. You will then use your new vocabulary to write sentences. Be sure to add any new vocabulary that you like into your ‘new vocabulary’ list/book.

In our live lesson today, we will be exploring word class. We will focus on identifying nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs in sentences. We will then explore what prepositions are and identify these in sentences. This is something that we have been doing over and over, so I expect a lot of interaction during this lesson!
